CoAsia SEMI (CEO DS Shin) announced on the 17th that it has signed a wafer manufacturing license agreement for ISELED (Integrated Smart Embedded LED), a core component used in premium automotive interior lighting, with Germany’s Inova Semiconductors GmbH.
Inova’s patented ISELED technology is applied to automotive ambient lighting systems and enables precise control of RGB colors within LED modules, delivering uniform and high-quality illumination. While ISELED has primarily been adopted by European automakers, major automotive brands in Korea, China, and other Asian markets are increasingly adopting the technology to enhance interior design competitiveness.
With this licensing agreement, Inova secures a more stable supply chain for global automakers and plans to strengthen its foundry production capabilities through CoAsia SEMI, a Samsung Foundry DSP, bolstering responsiveness for customers in the Asian region.
Through the agreement, CoAsia SEMI gains independent production capabilities for LED controller products based on ISELED technology. As Itswell—the LED business division of parent company CoAsia (045970)—is responsible for packaging, module manufacturing, and sales, the group has established a fully integrated vertical structure connecting wafer production, packaging, and LED module supply. This allows CoAsia to secure both stable supply channels and synergy among group affiliates.
CoAsia SEMI also highlighted that ISELED technology has significant potential beyond automotive interior lighting, extending into next-generation automotive semiconductor applications such as smart lighting, microLED, and integrated interior displays. The company aims to use this technology introduction to strengthen its competitiveness in the automotive semiconductor sector.
Both companies expect the partnership to contribute to shorter lead times and improved procurement efficiency for domestic automakers.
Robert Isele, President of Inova Semiconductors, noted, “Sharing ISELED technology with additional partners is essential for establishing it as an industry standard. This collaboration marks another important step toward reinforcing the robust ISELED supply chain demanded by global customers.”
CoAsia SEMI’s CEO, DS Shin—who also heads the semiconductor division of CoAsia Group—said, “This licensing agreement demonstrates the synergy within CoAsia Group by integrating CoAsia SEMI’s chip design capabilities with Itswell’s LED packaging and module assembly across the ISELED value chain. We will continue strengthening our competitiveness in the automotive semiconductor industry and expanding our portfolio.”
