[Seoul=NEWSIS] Reporter Kim Kyung-taek — CoAsia SEMI, a system semiconductor design subsidiary of CoAsia, announced on the 12th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the City of Gwangju to promote the expansion of the artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor ecosystem.
According to the company, the agreement was concluded in connection with the “AI for All, Gwangju” vision declaration held the previous day.
Through this collaboration, CoAsia SEMI plans to actively participate in AI-semiconductor initiatives promoted by Gwangju, including: securing skilled talent through partnerships with leading local universities and specialized higher-education institutions; conducting joint research and development and technical cooperation with local semiconductor companies; and pursuing chip development and new business opportunities together with AI fabless firms.
The company noted that the cooperation goes beyond simple technological exchange, carrying significance in that it contributes to region-based industrial development outside the Seoul metropolitan area. By linking with hub cities such as Gwangju, CoAsia SEMI intends to align with the government’s policies on balanced regional development and AI talent cultivation, and to contribute to building an AI semiconductor industry model anchored in local regions.
DS Shin (Dong-Soo Shin), CEO of CoAsia SEMI (and Head of CoAsia’s Semiconductor Division), said, “To strengthen national competitiveness in the AI semiconductor industry, it is necessary to extend the currently Seoul-centered ecosystem into the regions,” adding, “Leveraging our capabilities accumulated through collaboration with global customers, CoAsia SEMI will serve as a bridge between the regions and the global market, thereby enhancing AI semiconductor competitiveness at both the national and regional levels.”
